Growing Gourmet Mushrooms in Your House and Garden

Sunday, December 6, 2015
10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
The Kitchen at BPM

This workshop will teach you the techniques necessary to grow edible mushrooms in your landscape and within your home. Whether you have a vegetable garden, wooded backyard, or apartment you will walk away with ideas of how you can use your space to grow healthy, delicious mushrooms. We will discuss companion planting with mushrooms, shiitake log cultivation, constructing indoor oyster bins and explore how to make use of waste materials and neglected spaces through mushroom cultivation.

Dan Bensonoff is a devoted farmer, and educator. He began his mycelial adventures as a child when he would go foraging with his grandparents. After many foraging walks, he began exploring mushroom cultivation out of his home and within community growing spaces. Currently, he lives in Jamaica Plain and works as the assistant grower at Newton Community Farm.
